Gears of War 3, the next title in the highly successful Gears of War series has been officially revealed.

The announcement was made by Epic Games’ lead designer Cliff Bleszinski on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. The first trailer, entitles “Ashes to Ashes” was shown, which confirms an April 2011 release. The trailer is typically artistic, and shows Marcus, Dom, Cole and Baird fighting off a Locust attack, with a third group, the Lambent, now emerging as a new enemy to both humans and Locust. Aside from some quite stunning beards, it also confirms the existence of female COG soldiers and double-barrelled shotguns.

Gears of War 3 is due out exclusively on Xbox 360 in April 2010.
