EA Sports Active 2 To Utilise Kinect

EA Sports has announced that its impending fitness-inducing sequel, Active 2, will support Microsoft Kinect technology.

The 360 version of the game (can we call it that?), which ships with a heart rate monitor that straps to the forearm of the player, will utilise full 1:1 body tracking attained by using Kinect, providing ‘total freedom of motion’.

The PS3 version of the game will not support Move, but instead comes with what’s known in the business as the Total Body Tracking system, which is a collection of motion-sensing peripherals that you strap to various body parts in order that the program knows where you are and what you’re doing. Xbox versions of the game will also make good use of Kinect’s voice recognition to navigate through the menus and the like, allowing for a “seamless, fluid workout experience.” You can see why they like Kinect, can’t you?

The game will also be released on the Wii, iPhone and iPod Touch, and although details on the iDevice versions are a little scarce at the moment, we can confirm that the Wii will be using a similar set of extensions to those found in the PS3 version.

EA Sports: Active 2 will be out on November 16th in North America, and the 19th in Europe.
