During Develop last week, there was a rather successful GamesIndustry.biz party – despite being effected by a small hurricane. It was there that I sold on the concept of Big Match Striker, a new innovative football game, so imagine my excitement when I received word that an exclusive beta had opened up.
Supermassive Games, the developer behind the free-to-play PC title which is set to launch this August, hope that Big Match Striker will become an “entirely new type of challenge for football fans as they use every ounce of football skill and knowledge in the role of chairman, manager, player and fan.”
Geraint Orchard-Bungay, Supermassive Games Online Publishing Director, commented, “We’re really excited to see the players’ feedback and reaction to Big Match Striker. We’d encourage football and gaming fans to get involved in the three-week trial and play their part in making the game as much fun and as competitive as possible.”
Playing in competitive leagues, players must win matches by correctly answering constantly updated questions on the English Premiership and Football League players, teams and matches, as well as covering all the significant happenings in English football over the years, World Cups past and present and historic football trivia. So basically, it’s perfect for all your footballing mates who love football, but hate being trounced 6-0 every time you play FIFA. The reward for using up-to-date knowledge to win competitive matches is in-game currency, with which players must make shrewd managerial decisions to strengthen their team and to grow and develop their club, attracting more fans in the quest for promotion to the higher leagues. With questions coming as quickly as just two hours after matches, Big Match Striker is shaping up to be a great game for football fans across the country!
The latest trailer highlights the tactical and strategic aspects of the game. Although if you’ve yet to see them all, it’s worth checking out the rest of the hilarious trailers here.
There are only 500 spots up for grabs so head over to www.bigmatchonline.com now to try and get a spot.
