Capcom Announce Street Fighter X Tekken

Capcom has officially announced Street Fighter x Tekken at ComicCon.

After Yoshinori Ono’s hinted announcement from a few weeks back and the Capcom vs Namco rumours of just a couple of days ago, it’s finally official. Rendered in highly detailed 2D environments and using the same technology that powered Street Fighter IV, “characters such as Kazuya Mishima and Nina Williams will make the transition into the Street Fighter universe having been re-imagined using the much loved art style of these seminal titles; while retaining their unique characteristics and signature moves as they go head to head with classic brawlers from the Street Fighter franchise in what promises to be the ultimate match up.”

Commenting on the origins of this project Yoshinori Ono said: “This is history we’re making. Two fighting games that have rivalled each other are finally standing on the same stage. This isn’t just a showdown between Tekken and Street Fighter, but a decisive battle for Capcom and Namco Bandai Games. So I’m going to give it my all.”

There will also be Tekken x Street Fighter to be developed by Katsuhiro Harada of Namco Bandai, which will bring the Street Fighter characters to the world of Tekken, and thus using the Tekken art style.

As a massive fan of the both the Tekken and Street Fighter franchises this is a dream come true. The title will be coming to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, yet unfortunately it won’t be “for a while”.
