Well that was pretty hectic wasn’t it? About time for a tidy little round-up.
First off we had the trailer for Batman: Arkham City. Whilst the trailer is all CGI – note, not live action – it’s hugely compelling; revealing Hugo Strange as the villain it Batman’s latest outing.
Next up was the first big reveal, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim from Bethesda. To be a direct sequel to Oblivion, Skyrim was given a release date of November 11th, 2011.
What followed was the announcement of Kratos in the next Mortal Kombat game, which is set for release in 2011 and with Kartos exclusive to PlayStation 3.
Thor was next to show off a trailer, which revealed a release date of May 3rd, 2010.
Now was for a big hitter though, Mass Effect 3. Stating that “If Shepard doesn’t bring help soon, there won’t be an Earth left to save,” you can be certain that this will be huge. Set for release on PlayStation 3 as well as Xbox 360 and PC now, even more fans will be able to play this epic threequel.
Another ‘third-in-a-franchise’ game next with Resistance 3. This game looks stunning and has been confirmed as all in-game footage, whilst the release date has been confirmed as September 6th, 2011.
Several announcements were next, beginning with Prototype 2, where you must “Murder your maker” come 2012. This was quickly followed by the reveal of Guillermo Del Toro’s new game, Insane, which aside from being a “new terror game” and not being out until 2013, we know nothing about.
Snuck in was a trailer for some Deadliest Warrior: The Game DLC. A new trailer for Portal 2 only increased the already mammoth excitement for this title.
Forza Motorsport 4 was revealed – although we already new this from E3, with nothing much but a shiny trailer and a fall 2011 release date to boot.
Huge excitment was met with the reveal of a new SSX game, subtitled Deadly Descents, however the trailer showed more of a Black Ops meets snowboarding style to the SSX we know and love. We’ll have to wait until we see some gameplay to pass reasonable judgement though.
Finally, we were left with Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. Revealed earlier in the week, the trailer, which was all done with the in-game engine, looked stunning. You simply have to watch it.
So that was everything that was in this years Video Game Awards. Oh, except for the winners of course, who could forget those.
