We already knew that Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception managed to sell 3.8 million copies in one day, but the rest of the numbers are equally as amazing. In a recent interview with IndustryGamers, Asad Quizilbash – product marketing manager for the game, has revealed the full extent of the numbers.
When asked about the sales figures for Uncharted 3 he said, “As we reported, day one we shipped over 3.8 million copies of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. Week one sales were double that of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, far exceeding our expectations.”
He went on to explain that “Although a traditional tool used by development to kick the tires on multiplayer, we see the Public Beta as an important marketing tool to get the game in the hands of our core gaming community. We supported the Beta with a combination of digital advertising and retail point of purchase. We ended up with over 1.6 million players – far exceeding our expectations.”
If you think it is 3.8 million faithful owners of the PlayStation 3 console, the next statistic might shock you. “We also shipped an Uncharted 3 PS3 Bundle for $299.99. You get the 320GB PS3, and a free copy of Uncharted 3. Sales of this bundle are exceeding ours and retailer’s expectations, showing that Uncharted 3 is bringing new consumers to the PS3 platform.”
Total Uncharted series sales? “Sold over 13 million units globally.” Wow. Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception was critically acclaimed at launch by everyone, our review here, and with DLC supporting the “fantastic online diversion to compliment the incredible campaign” inbound, those numbers could potentially keep coming in droves. We also have a PS Vita instalment of the series to look forward to, either at or close to launch.
