Codemasters has announced a new title in the DiRT franchise.

DiRT Showdown in coming to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC in 2012 and is described as “an arcade-style spin-off” that takes elements from the last two core titles. Showdown will take the extreme sports factor from DiRT 2, Gymkhana events from DiRT 3 and add in some Destruction Derby to round off the package.

The game will take place in Codies’ “theatre of racing” and will feature Autolog inspired challenges, stunt based events, online multiplayer for up to eight players and a two player split-screen.

Handling has also been altered to produce “a simpler arcade feel that should make keeping your car on the track and performing outrageous stunts much easier.”
