Editor’s Note: We recently asked you, our community to vote for your Games of the Year across a variety of categories. We received a fantastic number of votes, well surpassing last year’s entries, and well, this is just one of many results. Enjoy.
Sony have had a rather difficult year. The PlayStation Network famously went down, the result of which cost them millions. In Japan at least, they ended the hardware year on a high by releasing the PS Vita, something the rest of us will see early next year (I cannot wait!). In terms of the games though, the PlayStation 3 at least has had a good year for exclusives.
Last year saw the God of War romp to victory over the likes of Gran Turismo 5 and the beautiful Heavy Rain. It saw the continued a trend of a plethora of exclusive blockbuster games hit the console and expectations certainly grew for this year. Once again, we can only look at the exclusives, but this year has seen some real contenders.
I shall spare you the anticipation as you probably guessed who won this anyway. This years MediaKick Community’s PlayStation 3 Game of the Year is: Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.

The numbers tell a rather fitting tale: 3.8 Million units in one day. That shows just how hotly anticipated this PlayStation 3 exclusive was. The other numbers which include the rest of the series back up the popularity of Naughty Dog’s blockbuster franchise.
“It’s an unrelenting adventure that is equally thrilling as it is captivating, showcasing some of the finest storytelling the medium has ever seen – something that’s immeasurably assisted by the brilliance of the voice-acting, the superb animations and quite incredible pacing.” David Howard wrote in his wholly positive review of the much-anticipated third episode of Nathan Drake’s adventures, before concluding, “Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is not just world-class, it’s in a class of its very own. Rarely do games come along with such brilliance in all aspects. It is the PlayStation 3’s, no, gaming’s defining symphony.”
One of the widest margins on our category winners list; Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception claimed 64.4% of the treasure, while second place LittleBigPlanet 2 merely claimed just 10.0% of the reward. It does make for some rather rosy reading for Naughty Dog as well, as with this award, Uncharted 3 now has three, with the Best Action-Adventure and Best Visual Appearance awards having already been scooped.
Others on the staff here at MediaKick have also said some rather good things about the latest Uncharted game, mostly along the lines of “anyone who hasn’t played this game either only has an Xbox/Nintendo console, or has been living under a very big rock”. With Nathan Drake’s adventures set to continue on the PS Vita when it launches next year, the future is bright for Naughty Dog; especially since we all have The Last Of Us to look forward to in 2013. In the meantime, if you haven’t played this yet, get out from under that rock!
