After being spotted on the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), Sony has confirmed that they will be releasing the original Killzone on the PlayStation Network.
Unfortunately, it’s not a remastered release in lovely HD, rather just a port of the PlayStation 2 title. The release will set you back $9.99 (so likely to be £7.99) when it hits the store on January 24. There’s no confirmation of a UK or European release date however at the moment.
The original Killzone was released on the PlayStation 2, whilst its two sequels, Killzone 2 and 3, were released on the PlayStation 3. The latter was extremely well received by our team, with it being awarded an A+ when I reviewed it early last year.

Ouch with the no HD…but Killzone is better than no Killzone. I’m guessing that means no trophy support either? :-/
Yeah no trophy support either. When re-releasing a game now I think its essential to have HD upgrade and trophy support.
It’s especially a shame given how fantastic its two sequels look. Really liked Killzone 1 back on the PS2, so was quite hoping for a HD remake.
Not entirely sure trophy support is really necessary to enjoy a game, but a lack of HD visuals is somewhat surprising. Still, its that same game with the ability to play it on your newer model PS3s. That isn’t a bad thing!
I agree Trophy support is not essential to enjoy a game except in the case of a remake/re-release. With so many great games out there I am only going to pick up a game I played years ago if there is an incentive to do so.
Resident Evil 4 for example – I played that to death! With the release of the HD edition I picked it up again to enjoy another run through with targets/tasks to accomplish through trophies. Without those additional milestones I doubt I would have played it again to be honest.
