It’s always enjoyable to hear that a critically acclaimed game also had the same sort of success at retail. For deliciously brilliant platformer Rayman Origins, that is just the case as publisher Ubisoft revealed that the title has been profitable for them, whilst feeling that the game will be an ”a long-term seller for the company.”
No precise figures were revealed – budgets or sales wise – during the investors call, but it’s good to hear that despite less than stellar sales, the game was financially viable for the company. This obviously makes the continuation of the series more likely and, given that we awarded Origins a quite remarkable “A+” in our review last year, we’d most certainly like a sequel.
“Two successes more than compensated for the performance of Rayman: Origins, Tintin and the non-dance Kinect titles,” said Alain Martinez, chief financial officer for Ubisoft. “We believe Rayman: Origins, which is rated 89 percent on Metacritic with enthusiast reviews and is already profitable, has the capacity to become a long-term seller for the company.”
The game is out on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with a PlayStation Vita version set to release next week alongside the handheld’s launch. As for a PC release, we can expect it on March 30.

Very glad to hear this. Just goes to show that now every big release has to include guns, the words Elder Scrolls or even be in 3D.
now should be not.
Lovely news. Games like this (and Ico, SOTC, etc) all deserve to be profitable so the industry can see vibrant and award winning titles for years to come. Sure, we all love a bit of generic pap from time-to-time but titles such as the above are what it’s all about when it comes down to it.
